History

From its earliest days, Lignacite Ltd has been defined by a spirit of innovation and a commitment to progress. Since 1947, the company has consistently embraced new ideas, materials, and technologies, pushing the boundaries of what masonry products can achieve. From pioneering the use of wood aggregates in the post-war era to leading 21st-century research into sustainability, Lignacite has remained at the forefront of change, evolving into the thriving, future-focused business it is today.

Lignacite was incorporated in 1947, born out of a post-war Britain facing significant shortages in building materials. The company’s original product combined wood particles, sand, and cement, a formula that reflected both innovation and resourcefulness. The name Lignacite itself originates from “lignum”, Latin for wood, a nod to the natural material that formed the foundation of its first blocks.

Over the ensuing decades, Lignacite has steadily expanded its operations, underpinned by ongoing investment in manufacturing technologies and facilities. A major milestone came in the 2000s with the rebuilding and modernisation of the Brandon site, which enhanced production capacity, consistency, and efficiency – cementing Lignacite’s position as one of the UK’s most advanced masonry manufacturers.

Now turning over almost £32m, Lignacite approaches its eighth decade, where its longevity stands as a testament to its ability to adapt, innovate, and uphold the enduring values that have underpinned its success for more than 75 years. This heritage, combined with a forward-looking growth strategy, creates an exceptional opportunity for an accomplished Operations Director to play a pivotal role in shaping the next chapter of the company’s evolution.
